Our client, an established engineering and fabrication company servicing the mining industry, is currently seeking an experienced Fabrication Workshop Manager for a permanent opportunity based Roxby Downs/Olympic Dam.


Whilst the preference is to find a locally based candidate, our client is also open to considering DIDO or FIFO (ex Adelaide only) candidates.


Fabrication Work Shop Manager Role Responsibilities include but are not limited to:


  • Direct Report to Business Owners/Directors
  • Managing three direct reports - Workshop Supervisor, Welding Supervisor, Senior QA/QC
  • In conjunction with Workshop supervisors, plan, prioritise and allocate work/jobs daily
  • In conjunction with QA/QC Supervisors and Team, maintain QA/QC practices and standards
  • A substantial part of the role involves estimating for mining industry projects (pressure piping/structural steel projects)
  • Procurement - ordering materials for projects
  • Labour organisation (Interviewing/on-boarding/HR support/scheduling/rostering)
  • Workshop Development (research for new plant equipment/relocation of plant and equipment)
  • Safety and Standards - reviewing/maintaining/implementing safety policies and procedures and ensuring all personnel are complying with the latest safety policies and procedures
  • Extensive client liaison
  • Ensuring timely sign off for all completed jobs/projects
  • Invoicing duties
  • Maintaining Financials - job profit and loss reporting/accountabilities (working closely with GM)


Essential Skills and Experience required:


  • Previous experience in a similar fabrication workshop management role
  • Trade Background (Boilermaker) essential
  • Strong welding background - within oil and gas / mining industries is highly advantageous
  • Cert 10 or AS2214 would be highly regarded
  • QA/QC development and implementation experience (QA/QC MDR compiling, ITP development, TQ process, and understanding of ISO9001 requirements)
  • Experienced in performing material and labour take-offs for fabrication of piping and structural fabrication in line with industry standards
  • Experienced in reading and interpreting shop/fabrication drawings
  • Commercial understanding and department cost control experience
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills to successfully guide a team of welding supervisors and trades personnel
  • Excellent Communicator/Negotiator with ability to quickly develop and maintain professional internal/external working relationships
  • IT Literate - MS Word / MS Excel, databases, financial software experience
